Nicole Dempsey

Starting with her diagnosis with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in 2013, Nicole Dempsey developed a deep connection with the pulmonary hypertension community. Previously an elementary school teacher, she was driven by her passion for education and helping others to join the fight for a better life for Canadians living with PH.

Nicole was part of the inaugural cohort of PHA Canada Ambassadors from 2014-16 and a leading advocate for new PAH therapies during the Take Action PAH campaign. She then joined PHA Canada’s Board of Directors in 2017 and made history as the first (and so far, only) person living with PH to serve as Board Chair from 2020-23. Her leadership was instrumental in helping the organization successfully navigate the COVID pandemic. More importantly, she remained deeply connected to patients and caregivers throughout Canada and internationally, always working to ensure their needs and perspectives were prioritized.

Nicole’s service to the PH community has continued beyond her retirement from the board in 2023. She continues to act as a patient partner, educating healthcare professionals, assisting in research, and advocating for all people affected by PH. Her impact on PHA Canada and the PH community will be felt for years to come.
