March is National Nutrition month, and again the Dietitians of Canada have chosen Nourish to Flourish as the theme, highlighting “highlights the profound connections between food and overall well-being, emphasizing the transformative role of nutrition in our lives”. It’s a good reminder that the everyday choices we make around food can have a big impact on how we feel.
Nutrition can be top of mind for people with pulmonary hypertension, who often need to keep a low-sodium diet or to limit fluids. Making those changes can feel overwhelming at times, but with the right tools and support, eating well can still be enjoyable, satisfying, and full of flavour. Here are a few of our nutrition-related and dietitian-assisted resources to help you along the way:
In our May 2025 webinar What’s for Dinner? Eating well with pulmonary hypertension, dietitian Emily Campbell demonstrates the Simple Spring Rolls recipe from our collection of low-sodium recipes. Emily talks about options for proteins, sauces, and condiments when making this meal, how to read labels and budget your sodium throughout the day, and how to ask for nutrition support from your PH care team.
The Low-Sodium Recipe Book features not only the Simple Spring Rolls recipe, but many other delicious low-sodium options.
Our May 2023 webinar Improving quality of life through nutrition, with dietitian Chermaine Kwant, will help you understand more about nutrition and how to eat well in a way that works for you.
Finally, our Nutrition and Pulmonary Hypertension handout has tips for managing sodium and fluid intake.
This Nutrition Month, we encourage you to explore these resources, try a new recipe, and celebrate the positive steps you’re taking for your health. Happy Nutrition Month! Eat well and flourish!
