New PAH-associated genes identified

In the body, variations in several genes were associated with a more than 20-fold increased risk of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). This study from Stephen Archer's lab at Queen's University is the first report associating DNMT3A gene variants in sex cells with a cardiovascular disease. It is also the first report of body cell and sex-cell gene variations associated PAH with connective tissue disease.

These genes might be useful biomarkers and therapeutic targets for PAH.
