Dr. Mitesh Thakrar
Dr. Mitesh V. Thakrar is a pulmonary physician practising in Calgary, Alberta. He has been the education committee chair with PHA Canada for a number of years before transitioning to the board of directors. He is a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, hold appointments in both the division of transplant medicine and respiratory medicine. He is currently the Division Head of the Division of Transplant Medicine and the Medical Director of the Southern Alberta Solid Organ Transplant Program. Dr. Thakrar graduated from medical school in Calgary and then completed his internal medicine and pulmonary medicine training there. He then completed fellowships in lung transplant (University of Alberta) and pulmonary hypertension (University of Newcastle, UK) before joining the faculty in Calgary in 2011. His current research in pulmonary hypertension centres around clinical outcomes research utilizing the national Canadian PH Database. His passion lies in PH education having engaged in teaching of medical students, residents, faculty, allied health professionals, patients, and families about this condition.
