The 21st anniversary of my PH diagnosis came, and I had to pinch myself. I started thinking about all the things that happened on the way. I have met so many people from around the world on this journey. They are medical professionals, patients, caregivers and advocates I otherwise would not have ever known had I not been diagnosed with PH. Great friendships have been formed along the way, with great times together. Many new treatment options have come along since my diagnosis in 2001. There is a lot of hope.Â
I’ve learned that educating myself and others is so important. As a patient, my medical team can treat me and give me advice and then it’s up to me to follow their recommendations. I try and live the healthiest lifestyle I possibly can. It’s not always easy, but I try. I’m fortunate to have a husband who has always supported me. Take one day at a time, one step at a time and don’t be too hard on yourself. Ask for help when you need it.
Enjoy the things you can do even if it’s not the future you pictured. I was asked just recently what my ultimate goal in life is. I answered I’ve already reached it. I wanted to be a Gramma, aka Nani.
