On a beautiful June day filled with sunshine and warmth, our community gathered for a special fundraiser in honour of Andrew Barfoot. Originally organized to help cover Andrew’s and his family’s medical expenses while he waited in hospital for a lung transplant, the event has since transformed into an annual tradition. After Andrew tragically lost his battle with pulmonary hypertension at just 26, we chose to continue the event in his memory—raising funds for his favourite charities and celebrating the incredible life he led.
Andrew was more than a paramedic with Grey County Paramedic Services—he was a big brother, a lacrosse coach, a Realtor, and a dedicated volunteer at places like OSHARE and the local food bank. He lived with purpose and heart, always finding ways to lift up those around him. Andrew was an important part of my family, helping our boys with schoolwork and even teaching one of our sons to drive. He was also a cherished member of our paramedic family, always there when someone needed him.

The car wash and BBQ were a huge success. Our Owen Sound NorthStars lacrosse team and Grey County paramedics came together alongside Andrew’s family—Sue, Jeff, Rachel, and Matt—to host the event. We washed about 120 vehicles and served up burgers, hotdogs, and ice cream sandwiches. The youngest NorthStars greeted our guests and even served them right in their vehicles. One of the sweetest moments was watching two little kids bring their toy dump truck and loader for a wash—proof that “no vehicle is too small.” As one person commented on Facebook, “It was really nice to see young people working hard to support our community.”
We are proud to share that the event raised over $5,000. All proceeds go to PHA Canada, supporting vital pulmonary hypertension research, advocacy, and community support programs. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to everyone who donated, participated, and helped make this day so meaningful. We plan to continue this event every year, not only to raise money but to honour Andrew’s memory and keep his generous spirit alive.
