Seattle boy again campaigning for healthcare changes

SEATTLE - Three years ago, he thrust himself into the health care reform debate.The now 14-year-old Marcelas Owens is ready to do it again.  He says the discussion in Congress has caused him to think about the legislation, which he pushed for years ago. “It’s going to help a lot of people,” said the now high school student Monday night, “a lot of people will be benefiting.” Owens campaigned for reform, as a then 11-year-old, telling the story of his mother who lost health care coverage and then succumbed to the effects of pulmonary hypertension.  Marcelas stood next to President Barack Obama as he signed the legislation.

The debate now? “It makes me think of my mom a lot because I think she’d be here fighting for it.”
