Educational Events
The Pulmonary Hypertension Association of Canada believes that pulmonary hypertension education is extremely important. It allows patients and their caregivers to know as much as possible about their disease, helping them to live better, advocate more for themselves and raise other’s awareness of the disease.
We strive for our education programs and for the educational events we support, to bring together members of the PH community and allow patients and caregivers to interact and learn about PH from experts in the field.
In the hopes of bringing together and educating as many Canadians whose lives have been touched by pulmonary hypertension as possible, PHA Canada hosts a biennial National PH Conference. The Conference lasts three days, and features many informative sessions on a variety of topics from the basics of PH to the latest in research and includes patient led sessions on day-to-day living with PH issues. The next conference will be held in Ottawa in September 2013. Visit the Conference page for more details and to view materials from the last conference.
PHA Canada works to support local and regional support groups, chapters and affiliated organizations in their efforts to host smaller scale educational events. These events allow patients to attend educational sessions locally, without having to travel great distances. PHA Canada helps to support these events financially as well as by offering any organizational assistance required.
As of October 2010, PHA Canada is also helping to build the Canadian PH support group network, by connecting with medical professionals and patients in cities where no current support system exists and is helping to organize initial educational meetings to bring patients together in the hope of sparking interest amongst the attendees for a local support group. Three meetings like this will be held in 2010, in Ottawa, Vancouver and Halifax. More cities will be added in 2012.
In the near future, PHA Canada will be offering regular web-based seminars “webinars” on a variety of PH-related topics. Check back soon for more details.
