Beth Slaunwhite

Patient, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Beth_Slaunwhite.jpgLiving in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Beth is the mother of four adult children and a four-year-old labradoodle. After years of being misdiagnosed, she received a diagnosis of idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (IPAH) in February 2016. Before her diagnosis, Beth had given up on visiting her doctor about her shortness of breath (SOB) because the puffers she was prescribed didn’t work. It is only after she landed in the ER with chest pain that an astute cardiology resident realized she couldn't walk very fast without extreme SOB, which led to her diagnosis.

Currently on medical leave from her job in health care, Beth is passionate about helping others connect and learn about the resources available to fellow PHighters on Canada's East Coast. She believes we must lobby governments for proper treatment for this disease by putting PH specialists in charge of the accessibility of PH drugs.

If you're from the Atlantic provinces, please connect with Beth; she'd love to hear from you!
